Suffolk County Council
As a result of their ‘review of schools organisation’ in 2010, Suffolk County Council required a complex move programme to be undertaken involving decanting 12 middle schools and 2 primary schools which were closing.
To minimise waste, useable furniture and equipment was re-distributed to approx. 80 other schools within the Suffolk area.
Commercial Transfer were appointed and due to the complex nature of the school closure program, provided a full time Move Manager to work closely with the County Council’s School Organisation Review team in planning the move and ensuring the moves were carried out on time and within budget.
During the school summer holidays, we packed over 6,000 crates and relocating school furniture into new premises, new building extensions and some into empty schools allowing them to be sorted by size, colour and condition for distribution to the receiving schools.
We had four teams of men working across the county 7 days a week, in order to get the moves completed on time, even drafting in teams from our branches in Newcastle and Leeds.
The relocation project was so successful that Commercial Transfer were asked to tender for, and again awarded the contract, to move further schools each year since. Since July 2011, Commercial Transfer have completed complex removals and redistribution processes on behalf of the council, involving over 200 schools.

“Thank you again for doing such a professional job at Roman Hill last week. It was very muddle-y all round and your patience was quite remarkable in the circumstances”.
