Home to the governing body of Cardiff since 1996 the council consists of 75 Councillors representing 29 wards.

As a trusted partner, Commercial Transfer were once again asked to join the team in making the offices workforce ready and help keep Councillors safe.

Requirements

As COVID rules and restrictions relaxed in Wales, we were invited to join Project Restart to help make County Hall safe for staff to use in the post COVID return to work. This involved optimising the use of existing furniture and removal of surpless.

Solution

Starting with the blank floorplans, we were able to work with the property team to devise a plan that allowed the retention of social distancing. With flexible working now encouraged, and additional space required per person, we were also delighted to be able to be involved from space and furniture planning to ethically disposing of redundant furniture.

  • Move Management: From the start we worked with the Project Restart team to carefully create a new floor plan that met best practice and keep in place key precautions to reduce the spread of COVID.

  • Furniture Management:  Our furniture management team were able to catalogue each item of furniture which helped negate the purchase of any additional items, and devise plans that ethically disposed of the surpless.

  • Ethical Clearance: As licensed carriers we go the extra mile to reduce our impact on the environment. We are committed to reducing the amount of unwanted furniture that ends up in landfill by Reusing, Recycling or Repairing as much as possible.

  • COVID Safe Teams: During the changes, all our teams continued to keep in place key COVID precautions including use of PPE, frequent washing and sanitising of hands, and socially distancing.

Outcome

By being involved from the start, we were able to deliver the whole project with the minimum environmental impact and demonstrate a carbon saving that can go to the councils environmental targets.

Nothing was too much trouble for the team. From day one John was clear on what was needed. To be able to prove how much Co2 we saved, and the amount of charities benefited by using Commercial Transfer's ethical clearance team was the icing on the cake. 10/10!
