During the last few years, for example, around 200 tonnes of office furniture have been saved including desks, cabinets, tables and other office equipment; computers have been forwarded to charitable organisations.
So if you have redundant furniture and IT equipment when you are upgrading equipment, changing office furniture or simply have excess to requirements please call us for free advice on the various options available.
These can include:
- transfer to another branch of your organisation (if appropriate);
- storage in our warehouse until it is needed in the future, as long as it is in good condition and storage is financially viable;
- offering for sale, or free, to other organisations or charities. The end recipient pays for the transport costs, which can offset the alternative cost of taking items to the tip.
Commercial Transfer can organise all this for you by taking an audit of redundant items, liaising with departments, taking photos, and distributing information to our client base and relevant websites.
- transfer to Green-Works* who will sell on where possible, refurbish or strip down and re-use components. For instance, they can make shelves from desktops;
- offering to charity – this is an option for IT equipment, such as redundant PCs, which can be checked, refurbished and sent to charitable organisations;
- stripping down – another option for IT equipment, useable components are retained and the remainder disposed of in an environmentally-friendly way and to current legislation.
Although the above options are generally more expensive than taking to the tip, the difference in costs is becoming closer and, as awareness of environmental impact is growing, more organisations are taking these options.
Our environmental impact
- As stated in our Environmental Policy, we will continue to try to reduce our waste and impact;
- we are now using vehicle tracking: satellite navigation and specialist removals software which helps reduce fuel by optimising journey route planning and scheduling;
- we are encouraging the minimal use of paper, and recycle all waste paper;
- where possible we communicate with clients by email or telephone;
- we are researching the use of vehicles which use alternative fuels.
